Thought for the Day

Driving Carefully: we can all be guilty of speeding along our little one-lane roads, but the posted speed is 30 mph.  Please try to be conscious of your speed and remind others to slow down; and pay attention - deer jump out in threes or fours.  We need to drive carefully for the walkers, bike riders, young children, and wildlife in our neighborhood.

And parents, please be sure to make your kids understand that even with very careful drivers, roads are dangerous and cars and trucks can kill you - so be sure to make them understand that paying attention and following the rules of the road is very, very important.

LCELA Fall Meeting

We had the 2008 Fall Business Meeting on Sunday November 9th. We held elections and discussed putting together a neighborhood directory. Tony Clark volunteered to be the new secretary for 2009 and Cindy Rae and Steve Barnes agreed to serve another term. We discussed ways to boost participation and collect more membership dues.

Changes at the Lake - Upgrading the Dam
The Brushy Creek Water Control Authority is upgrading all the dams in their area.  Our Lake Pavilion is located near dam #3, which is on private property.  They plan to upgrade it by the end of 2009, by creating a 3 ft. tall concrete wall and removing all vegetation on the dam and the spillway.  The spillway is located to your left when you drive through the entrance to the lake.  So this means that many of the trees around the Pavilion will be cleared.  They have plans on using tan concrete and putting dirt and grass on it to minimize the degree of visual pain .  The Brushy Creek Water Control Authority crews are currently upgrading the dam off FM2243.  You can see examples of their work there and other areas around Round Rock.  They have also lowered the water level in the lake by about 3 ft.  They want to help prevent any flooding or the dam breaking and damage being done to all the homes around the Lake.

Burning Permit - Emergency Service District (ESD)
If you want to burn something on your property you must have a burning permit which you must get from the Cedar Park fire department.  If you call them, they will be able to give you all the details on what you must have with you when you are burning.  For example you must have a water supply near by and a shovel or tractor for putting dirt over the fire.  If you are caught burning they can fine you and make you pay using your homeowners insurance.

The City of Cedar Park also want to create an ESD (for Emergency Service District) to help with fire protection.  If it's voted in (naturally, we don't get to vote), the ESD will charge you yearly for their protection.

If you want to obtain a burning permit you call the Cedar Park Fire Marshall located at 600 N. Bell Blvd.  Call 401-5200 and talk to Bruce Herms.  It will cost you $35 for a permit.

LCELA Notices

Become a LCELA Member TODAY
This is a great time of year to be outside enjoying the lake.  If you like to fish or have a boat, our private lake pavilion is a great place to go.  It's not crowded, and there is a dock, boat ramp, and covered picnic area.  It's never too late to join and pay your dues.   Dues are only $120 a year, just ten bucks a month.  contact the treasurer for more information and look at the benefits page at the top of this page for more information on why it's important to be a member.

Neighborhood Directory

We distributed our neighborhood directory in February. Because it's a federal violation to put things in mailboxes without postage, some directories were confiscated by the US Mail.  If you would like a hard copy and did not receive one please contact Adrian Lee.

If you would like to be added to the directory (we can list address only if you prefer), or if you have a business you want posted in the directory, or you have any changes please contact Adrian Lee.

LCELA Group Email

We are now signed into a yahoo group account.  This is for sending out messages or notices to all of the neighborhood.  You might notice that you get everyone's replies.  That's because when you reply to an lcela group email, you reply to everyone.  So be careful with your responses.  If you want to reply to just one person, you can hit reply and then change the address to the individual you are directing the message to.  Some people have also said that these emails go to their junk folder.  So make sure you have the address saved in your address book.  It's lcela@yahoogroups.com.  You can not send a message to the group unless you are on the group list, and all of the addresses are hidden unless your a yahoo member.  So your address will remain private.  If you are not on the list or are not sure, please contact the webcheifs or Mark Bolles.  All of the email addresses that are listed in the directory should be in the group.  Please reference that when you trying to contact certain individuals.  Also please be careful to use the group email for emergencies and important information, no gossip or bad mouthing please.

Robberies

You may have heard that the neighborhood has had some robberies in the last several months. Everyone who has an alarm should be be careful to keep it on and keep things locked up and put away.  You may want to also document all your valuables, if you haven't already.  Please watch out for each other.  Report any suspicious behavior or vehicles to the Williamson County police, 943-1389.

Vandalism

We have had and continue to have vandalism at the Lake Pavilion and in our neighborhood.  Mail has been stolen, signs have been taken, and the lock at the Lake has been cut.  In July of 2008 there was an out of control fire at the Lake.  If you notice the Lake entrance gate not locked or trash or vandalism at the Lake Pavilion please report it to the Treasurer.  Watch for anyone that might not have permission to be at the Lake, and take special care that your Lake key doesn't fall into the wrong or irresponsible hands.

Rezoning

We have had some lots along CR 180 rezoned to commercial.  We also know of future plans to widen the road and maybe extend it.  We will keep you up to date on any changes as the area grows and changes around us.

Water Conservation

With the recent drought conditions it is important to conserve water as much as possible - we all share the springs which feed our wells.  There are more tips on how to conserve water under country living.

Loose Dogs

Please be careful to keep your dogs from running loose in the neighborhood, and keep them leashed when your at public events.  Many people get frightened by dogs or don't like the damage they might cause.  If your dog is loose notify the neighborhood.  If you see a stray dog notify the Williamson county animal shelter. 943-3322

Proposals for Updating the Neighborhood

Adrian Lee have written some proposals to update the neighborhood.  She suggested that we raise money to put signs at the entrances to the neighborhood to help identify our neighborhood.   She would also like there to be more activities at the lake pavilion.  She's suggesting that we raise money for commercial grade swings, a sand box, and a tether ball pole.  If 40 people donated $30-50 one time only, these things could be possible.  If you would like to read more about these proposals click here.  If you have any comments, questions, or you just want to voice your support please contact Adrian Lee.

EVENTS

LCELA Spring Festival -  The festival was Sat. April 25th.    Thanks to those who were able to come and enjoy the day with neighbors.  Thanks to all those that rsvped.  We're hoping for a better turn out next time.  We were able to collect some more dues, and we saw some new faces.  It was a little windy, but overall, it was a success.  The kids enjoyed the moonwalk.  Some people walked home with gift cards and plants, and the live band "Against the Wind", was a great hit.  They played everything from Elvis to Jimmy Buffet to Sublime.  Check out their my space page for more information about the music the play.  They will be playing at the Blue Parrot restaurant this summer and they are available for parties and special events.  We're hoping to have another spring festival next year about the same time.  If you have any suggestions about the date or activities, please contact Adrian Lee or a board member.   click here for some pictures of the event.
