The proposed formation for an ESD in this area was voted on in the November 2011 elections. The majority of voters voted for the ESD. Therefore, we will continue to move forward with forming an ESD that can negotiate tax rates with a fire provider for our area. The commissioner's court with appoint a board to help maintain the ESD. Board members will most likely be selected from each of the areas that our ESD #12 covers. While all this is taking place, Cedar Park will continue to service our area until the end of 2012. Once the ESD is formed and everything is settled we can expect to start seeing an increase in our taxes to pay for fire services.

ESD is an entity formed by the State to
provide emergency services (i.e. fire and medical response) to
residents who are outside the city limits, but in the city's ETJ (Extra
Territorial Jurisdiction). Our neighborhood is in Cedar Park's
ETJ. Cedar Park does not want to provide their ETJ residents fire services anymore because we do not pay city taxes and it is
too costly for the city. One option we have for keeping fire
services in our neighborhood is to form an ESD with other people in the
ETJ. Then we would pay cedar park a tax in order to keep using
their services. Visit Impact News for more information.
The city council has decided if Cedar Park's ETJ "form a funding mechanism with contracting authority by November 8, 2011, the Cedar Park Fire Department will continue to serve you through December 31, 2012, which will allow time to choose a service provider for your area. If the non-contracted areas of the ETJ do not establish a funding
mechanism with contracting authority by November 8, 2011, professional
fire and first responder service from the Cedar Park Fire Department to
the non-contracted areas of the ETJ will discontinue after December 31, 2011."
