What is an Emergency Service District (ESD)?

ESD is an entity formed by the State to provide emergency services (i.e. fire and medical response) to residents who are outside the city limits, but in the city's ETJ (Extra Territorial Jurisdiction).  Our neighborhood is in Cedar Park's ETJ.  Cedar Park does not want to provide their ETJ residents fire services anymore because we do not pay city taxes and it is too costly for the city.  One option we have for keeping fire services in our neighborhood is to form an ESD with other people in the ETJ.  Then we would pay cedar park a tax in order to keep using their services.  Visit Impact News for more information.
  •     The city council has decided if Cedar Park's ETJ "form a funding mechanism with contracting authority by November 8, 2011, the Cedar Park Fire Department will continue to serve you through December 31, 2012, which will allow time to choose a service provider for your area.  If the non-contracted areas of the ETJ do not establish a funding mechanism with contracting authority by November 8, 2011, professional fire and first responder service from the Cedar Park Fire Department to the non-contracted areas of the ETJ will discontinue after December 31, 2011."
